Western Christian countries celebrate Saint Nicholas Day (or the Feast of Saint Nicholas) on the eve of December 5th into the 6th. Saint Nicholas was a Christian bishop known for miracles and secretly giving gifts. He is now considered the patron saint of little children, sailors, merchants and students. In our culture, this jolly man, gift giving man in a long red cloak with white furry trim and long flowing white beard is associated with Santa Claus. In modern dictionaries, St. Nicholas, Santa Claus, Father Christmas are synonymous. No matter how you refer to him, who better to adorn your Christmas tree than Jolly Old Saint Nick? Dressed in traditional garb, he comes bearing a small green tree. He has rosy painted cheeks and beautiful blue eyes. The ornament is finished on all sides and is the perfect accessory to bring the feeling of Christmas to you home!
This ornament exemplifies Marolin’s niche of producing mouth-blown ornaments using old molds, then painting and finishing the items in such a way to create a vintage or ‘antique’ appearance. You will notice brush marks, minor color inconsistencies, rubs and an occasional small scratch, or even what appears to be missing paint. These are all part of the artistic charm that goes into the creation of Marolin ornaments.
The place of origin of the glass ornaments is the area around Lauscha in Thuringia. In the beginning it was just a substitute for real fruit which a poor glass-blower could not afford. With time, the diversity of glass ornaments for Christmas trees grew. Their popularity grew and they became a real bestseller. With this nostalgic glass ornament your Christmas tree will become a special eye-catcher! In addition, the ornament is an ideal gift or to collect.
